Tiger Tiger

malady

What a fucking TUNE. Who knew Kompakt could turn out stuff like this nowadays? Maxime Dangles BRINGS IT. It hurts my insides almost as much as Marc Houle & Richie Hawtin did at The End yesterday night. I know Ricardo was playing at Fabric, but I reckon we made the right choice with Richie - especially as we were going only with a bit of alcohol and fat reserves to get us through the (exceedingly hot and sweaty) night.

Troy Pierce kicked off the evening and everything was heating up a bit when I thought I’d started to crash out…then Marc Houle came on and blew the place apart. I know a lot of people have serious reservations about the guy, but personally I was totally sold even from just an hour-long set. When he magnified the mosquito-like “Bay Of Figs” into a buzzing monster worthy of Starship Troopers…yeah I lost my head a little bit. And then he only went and mixed it into “On It” and then “Extreme”…blissfully painful.

Richie Hawtin basically blew us all apart. By 4.30am I could feel the air physically smacking into my body with each beat. If you stood still even for a couple of seconds it felt like the floor was splitting in two. It was a fucking good night.

Anyway, back to Dangles. “Agujas” hurts my brain in the most pleasurable of ways. The night I hear this played out at 3am will be the night I probably lose control of my knees.

September Mix

sympathy

Here’s that mix I was thinking of making. It starts off poorly but I like to think it gets better around the Stavöstrand mark - partly because of me warming up and that (in fact that’s bollocks, I’m just shit…), but also because Stavöstrand has been on fire of late and it’s pretty hard not to be lifted by “Housedays”.

September Mix 2007

Marc Houle - On It [M_nus]
Miss Fitz - Geschprech [Jeff Samuel Remix] [Kalimari Musique]
Paul Ritch - Messene [Get Physical]
Alejandro Vivanco - Madre Tierre [Cadenza]
Mikael Stavöstrand - Housedays [Sushitech]
Ortega & Stavöstrand - Sparkling [Rrygular]
Pan-Pot - Crank [Mobilee]
Philip Sherburne - Lumberjacking [Lan Muzik]
Stefan Tretau - Ellis Perry [Inxec Remix] [Sounderground]
Lucio Aquilina - Feeling Plastik [Trapez]
Unknown Artist - Unknown Track

I’ve put that mystery track on last - I still don’t know what it is but it’s fucking ace. If anyone could tell me what it is I’d be extremely grateful.

I’m off to see Richie Hawtin & Co. at The End this Saturday. I’m excited.

I think this tune is just stunning. I don’t know where the choir’s from but I don’t really mind. In fact I think I’d rather associate it just with this track, because otherwise it might cheapen it. Goldmann knocks spots off “Viktor Casanova” with this one, and even tops his own remix of It’s “Women In Toilets”.

By the way, I’ve realised I should be converting these to lower quality, so I’ve started with today’s.

It seems my new working life means my posting is a little more erratic. So be it, I suppose.

Shlomi Aber’s been having a pretty good time of it recently - “Freakside” and “Moods” were both pretty impressive - and he continues his purple patch with this new collaboration with Itamar Sagi. The original’s a little like that Faze Action remix from a while back, but maybe a little less balls to the wall. Funk D’Void bliss it out even more while Martin Eyerer instead ups the jitter factor, albeit without much ingenuity. I think the Aber & Sagi original is the track to keep, really - roll on the full-length.

So, from funky worms to scary sharks. Marc Antona’s been doing it for me recently. I mentioned Anja Schneider’s RA podcast yesterday. It’s a great mix and has a few noises from Antona, including this collaboration with Anthony Collins. It’s not as showy as his “One More Sugar” track, but I think it makes up for it with a bit more stealth. Give his “Vitamin D” release a spin too, also on Micro-Fibres.

Also, I can’t wait to get my hands on the “Mumbling Yeah” track I heard recently at Electric Picnic, which kicks off Schneider’s podcast. It absolutely killed me in Ireland.

Station To Station

In the time since I last posted properly I have:

- Been to Electric Picnic

- Moved to London

- Started a new job

- Seen Erol Alkan at The End

- Been blown away by Villalobos’ Fabric 36 and Cobblestone Jazz’s 23 Seconds

- Bought a record player

- Moved into a new flat

- Had little chance to listen to music

I have managed to listen to the excellent RA Podcasts from Anja Schneider (seriously good) and Prosumer (smooth). And I’ve listened to this excellent follow-up to “Feuervogel” from Stimming. “Funkworm” is really very funky. The rest of the release is also high quality - Diynamic have yet to really disappoint me.

Here’s a link to a mix I posted a while ago. I might make another one soonish. The question is, do I put Philip Sherburne’s “Lumberjacking” in there like everyone else? Or is the question, how could I not?

Hiatus

Apologies for a week of lacking and what promises to be a further week off. I have been flathunting in London ready to start a new job this week, as well as going to the delightful Electric Picnic in the middle of it all.

Derrick May and Marco Carola almost killed me.

I’ll be back properly soon.
